  • French mayor urges Madonna to loan city painting lost in World War One

I highly doubt Madonna has the original (with one caveat).

Le Figaro said that a museum curator spotted the painting in an image of the inside of Madonna’s home published by Paris Match, a weekly magazine, in 2015. It had long been considered untraceable — or even destroyed in the war.

The newspaper noted, however, that the painting lacked a signature and a stamp. It also reported that the dimensions of the original painting and the one that was sold differed by about 3 centimeters, or 1.2 inches. (Washington Post)

If Madonna has the original it is not displayed for public viewing (it probably is in a secured area). If the latter is the case, I doubt she will loan it out.

  • Hmm…I am not sure why, but #MicroBlog seems to have issues federating posts again. I am going to temporarily cross post upon #Mastodon & #Tumblr until the issue is resolved (maybe for a few days).

  • Ron DeSantis Blocks AP African American Studies Course – Rolling Stone

Ron DeSantis is aligning himself with ignorance.

The pilot course, which has been tested at 60 schools across the United States, aims to expand the advanced coursework offered by the College Board into the study of the African diaspora in the U.S. The course has run afoul of DeSantis’ widespread ban on teaching “critical race theory” (CRT) in K-12 classrooms. CRT is an analytical framework that seeks to dissect the manner in which racism has shaped American legal theory and institutions. The concept has been co-opted in recent years by right-wing reactionaries to fearmonger about any and all discussions of race and discrimination. (Rolling Stone)

Kids need to learn about the real history of the United States & not some white washed version that makes the beneficiaries of colonialism “feel good” by ignoring how the American empire was build upon blood.

  • Americans can sponsor refugees directly under program launching this week

    This was long overdue!

Under the pilot program, which will be called the Welcome Corps, groups of at least five people will be expected to raise a minimum of $2,275 per refugee assigned to them by the government, one of the people said. The sponsor groups will also be required to pass background checks and create a support plan. (Reuters)

They should remove the cap of 125,000 annually though. If people are willing to sponsor someone & be responsible for the legal costs then there should not be limit of the number of people brought over (provided they pass the needed background checks of course).

  • HIV Vaccine Trial Ends In Failure

I knew they were researching this, but I did not know that they were attempting to create a vaccine against HIV

The only HIV vaccine in a late-stage trial has failed, researchers announced Wednesday, dealing a significant blow to the effort to control the global HIV epidemic and adding to a decadeslong roster of failed attempts.

Known as Mosaico, the trial was the product of a public-private partnership including the U.S. government and the pharmaceutical giant Janssen. It was run out of eight nations in Europe and the Americas, including the U.S., starting in 2019. Researchers enrolled nearly 3,900 men who have sex with men and transgender people, all deemed at substantial risk of HIV. (NBC News)

Scientists have not given up hope of eventually creating a cure to HIV & AIDS. Hopefully they can learn from this setback & move forward.

  • More than 80,000 people turn out for Tel Aviv protest against Netanyahu government

Oh wow!! I knew Bibi was controversial, but I did not think he was this controversial!

Tens of thousands of people protested in Tel Aviv Saturday night against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government’s proposed changes to the Israeli judicial system.

Despite pouring rain over the city, police estimated that more than 80,000 people flooded central Tel Aviv’s HaBima square and surrounding streets, according to Israeli media, while others took to the streets in Jerusalem for parallel protests. (CNN)

I believe over half of Israel 🇮🇱 are primarily agnostic or atheist, with the rest being religious.

Currently, the government is being led by the right-wing sector of the country, which is making some people understandably nervous.

  • This is why developers are still choosing Apple

I think this explains why many developers choose Apple over Android.
